Art of Devotion: As Within, So Without

Next class: March 25 - April 29 2017 (5 Weeks)

Online - anywhere with internet access and the ability to download documents and play audio files

With Raven Edgewalker and Chelidon

World Tree Lyceum is delighted to introduce our new online workshop in 2017- Art of Devotion

Choosing to live a magical life involves making, recognizing and strengthening connections — with nature, with the gods, with the many parts of ourselves, and with those around us. How would it be if we were able to be fully in love and devoted to both our self, and to others — connected within and without? How would it be if our devotion to self was a sacred mirror reflecting our devotion to the other beings in our lives, be they physical, spirit beings or our Gods? What could we do if we were more completely integrated, fully alive, and deeply “plugged in” with awareness to the universe around us?

The core of this essential, powerful work is to explore the depth and power of devotional work – working with the divinity within each of us, and the divinity without, which some might call God or Goddess, and some might perceive as the divine essence of the universe.

We will work with techniques of soul alignment, cleansing, self-love, trancework, altar building and art to deepen and develop our relationship with the divinity we call self, and to extend that deepening outwards to connect and strengthen our relationships with that which we perceive as divinity beyond self.  We believe that by doing this work with ourselves, our work will be reflected out into the world and beyond, into the universe. In learning to move though our lives, remembering that we are divine and that we can be in a divine relationship with divinity (including with the divine humans around us!), we can truly change the world, as well as our own lives. Is there any better time to start doing this work?

This is both fundamental, and advanced work. There are no prerequisites for this workshop, and all levels of magical experience are welcome, from neophyte to experienced practitioner (or even long-time magical folks who just may never have delved deeply into this particular area, or are curious to learn more).

Note: this is an online course, and anyone (regardless of gender, sex, sexuality or race) who has access to a computer, email and the ability to play audio files is welcome to participate. We are particularly hoping that this will allow those who find it difficult to attend an in-person class because of geography, schedule or budget to get access to this material.

Classwork (written materials and audio files) is sent out weekly, and work is at your own pace. We ask each participant to commit to checking into the group about the week’s work, but there is ample opportunity to “catch up,” so don’t worry if you will be traveling or unavailable for some part of the seven-week period.

To book your place please send an email to info@worldtreelyceum.org and request a registration form for the class. Please contact us at the same address for any further information or questions.

Since this is a new class for this year, we are offering it at a discounted rate for our very first group of participants. In return we hope that you will offer us ongoing feedback and let us know what you most want and need from this work. While we review, add and make changes each year to all our workshops, a group taking a workshop for the very first time has the most impact on its structure (and also the greatest opportunity to tailor it for their needs). If you are called to this work, we hope you will join us!

Experiential Celtic Tree Ogham Workshop

Next class: May 3 - July 5 2017 (9 Weeks)

Online - anywhere with internet access and the ability to download documents and play audio files

With Raven Edgewalker

The Celtic Tree Ogham is one of the lesser known forms of divination. This ancient Celtic alphabet has some parity with the runes, ie an alphabet for which each letter also has magical significance and meaning. In this case the divinatory meaning is derived from observation of the ecological, practical as well as magical properties of twenty trees native to the British Isles, e.g. Birch, Rowan, Alder, Willow and Ash.

Interest in the Celtic Tree Ogham is beginning to grow and has expanded outwards from the British Isles, extending into countries such as the USA and Australia where many of the Celtic trees are not native to the land. Where the traditional Celtic trees are found, they frequently occupy different ecological, practical and magical niches.

In this workshop we will work on learning skills and tools to develop and build energetic connections to the trees of the Celtic Ogham, along with using other resources and research to learn about the ecology of the trees. We will learn how to translate these energies into understanding the trees that are part of our native ecosystems whether you live in mountains or the desert or even in the British Isles (!); and work towards building a personal tree ogham system that is relevant to your own land, and which may be more or less based on the traditional Celtic tree ogham system.

We will work with trees as our allies and as our teachers learning to listen to them and hearing what offerings we can make to them for their assistance in our work. We will learn some of the basic practical skills required to begin making your own ogham set if you desire.

Homework will be set by each Wednesday evening, I ask each participant to commit to checking in to the group (we will use a yahoo group to facilitate this) about the week’s work by the following Tuesday evening so that I have time to read and respond before the next week’s work. Week 5 will be a reading week - a chance for you to catch up on work, to revise what we have already worked with and to take a look at the extensive reading list.

You will need to commit to spending time outside in nature where there are trees - whatever or wherever this means in your local area - for your workings each week. This is not an option for doing the course!

You will need a journal and writing materials – I would suggest purchasing a new journal for this work, so that your notes are not caught up in the midst of other writings - or it would be appropriate to use loose pages in a binder. You will need to be able to access research materials, whether online or offline, on trees, their ecology, practical and magical uses, as well as their use in art and literature. You may want or desire art supplies or a camera if this is one way that you like to work.

You will also need an ogham set to participate in this workshop! if you do not already own one please visit my online store at http://www.etsy.com/shop/greenwomancrafts or email me directly for more information about what kind I recommend or to buy one.

Price sliding scale $100-$170 - please decide where on the sliding scale you are, explanations are not required, and if the lower end of the scale is impossible for you, please contact us. If you are re-taking a class you've taken with us before, please deduct 50%.

Time Magic: a sacred working with Time as an ally and element

Next class: August 6-September 17, 2017 (5 Weeks)

Online - anywhere with internet access and the ability to download documents and play audio files

With Claudia Manifest and Raven Edgewalker

In this five week, online, interactive class we will explore our relationship to and with Time. We will strive to create, expand, and deepen a healthy and beneficial sacred conversation with this crucial and often ignored or maligned magical element. Work will include (but may not be limited to) :Creating a sacred understanding of Time as a magical ally and element; Time's crucial role in the practical magics of chance, synchronicity, luck, and manifestation; Working with deities and other entities associated with Time and it's magics; Working magically with the past, present, future; Exploring and experiencing Time in other realms; and accepting and manifesting change in your life with the aide of Time as an ally. If you choose to join us on this journey, be prepared for your magic and your worldview to be expanded and strengthened for all time! All that remains is for you to ask yourself, "Is it Time?" If the answer is "yes." (and if not now, then when?) we (Claudia, Raven, and Time), are excited to have you join us in this Work.

This workshop is open to all participants regardless of magical experience. However we will not be spending time in this workshop teaching basic magical skills, so we hope that our participants will have basic skills such as grounding, individual ritual skills. If you are unsure whether this class is for you, please contact us.

In this class-week class homework will be sent out by Sunday evening each week, and we ask each participant to commit to checking into the group (we will use a Yahoo group to facilitate this) about the week’s work by the following Saturday evening (or at any point in the preceding week - we will be in different time zones - you will not all need to be online at the same time to check-in), so that we have time to read and respond before the next week’s work. Trance work will be available in audio form (MP3 audio files, via Dropbox) for download and playback at any time.

You will need a journal and writing materials, basic art supplies, a divination deck or system of some kind (for example tarot cards, rune stones, ogham staves) and a watch or clock - ideally one that has hands (rather than a digital one or cell phone) and ideally one that you need to wind up daily.

Note: this is an online course, and anyone who has access to a computer, email and the ability to play audio files is welcome to participate. We are particularly hoping that this will allow those who find it difficult to attend an in-person class because of geography, schedule or budget to get access to this material. The exact dates of the class are still being finalized, and will be announced soon.

Price: sliding scale $55-$100 - decide where on the sliding scale you are, explanations are not required, and if the lower end of the scale is impossible for you, please contact us. If you are re-taking a class you've taken with us before, please deduct 50%.

People paying at the top end of the sliding scale help to support those at the lower end. We hope to be able to offer a discounted place for every workshop we offer.

To book your place please send an email to info@worldtreelyceum.org and request a registration form for the class. Please contact us at the same address for any further information or questions.

Magical Spellcrafting: making magic that works

Next class: September 10 - October 29 2017 (7 Weeks)

Online - anywhere with internet access and the ability to download documents and play audio files

With Raven Edgewalker and Chelidon

World Tree Lyceum is delighted to introduce our new online workshop - Magical Spellcrafting

So we do magic, and a core part of practical magical work is spellcrafting. But just what is a spell, and how does it work? How do you create and design effective and useful spells for yourself, or others? How does a spell differ from a prayer? What are the ethics of casting a spell for yourself, or for/on another?

These are some of the questions we will examine, discuss and explore during this class.  We will look at a variety of traditional, formal spellcrafting tools and techniques as well as hedge-witchery, folk-magic and intuitive methods. We will look at the ethics behind spellcrafting and the work that we need to do as magic-workers to give power and energy to our workings. We will explore different ideas and techniques behind some of the more commonly requested spell workings, including those of protection, banishing, and manifestation. We will provide classwork in the form of essays, links, audio files and of course practical, hands-on work, and will offer resources to help you continue to evolve your own spellworking practices after the class is ended. We will make spells, but we promise there will be no spelling tests…

This is both fundamental, and advanced work. There are no prerequisites for this workshop, and all levels of magical experience are welcome, from neophyte to experienced practitioner (or even long-time magical folks who just may never have delved deeply into this particular area, or who are curious to learn more) — we will tailor the work to your level and desires.

People paying at the top end of the sliding scale help to support those at the lower end. We hope to be able to offer a discounted place for every workshop we offer.
